Information for organisations referring young people

Young Carers Project
Supporting Young Carers in Cambridge & Ely

The Project supports under 19’s who support a family member with a long-term illness, disability, mental health problem or who misuse drugs or alcohol.

  We can help you by:

Providing someone to talk to

Groups, ATH Project and 1:1 Project

Talking to your school about problems on your behalf

Working with you to make your voice heard

Raising awareness of young carers issues

Groups - We run six fortnightly groups in Cambridge and Ely. The groups offer the chance to:

Meet other young carers who are providing support for a family member in the home

Make new friends

Have fun

Have the chance to talk

Be supported by each other, and the Project Team

Enjoy activities and learn new skills

The groups are located in youth buildings in Cambridge and Ely and may have pool tables, table tennis, chill-out areas, Internet access and kitchen facilities. Each group will have between 8 and 14 young people attending and provides a great opportunity to get to know lots of new friends.

ATH Project - means Activities, Trips and Holidays. The Project offers young carers the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting activities and day trips. A team of elected young people will help with the planning, decision making and involvement of all the young carers on the Project. Some of activities and trips that we hope to do are:

    Wicksteed ParK

    Thorpe Park

    Grafham Water

    Bowling

    Swimming

    Go Ape (Thetford Forrest)

    Hunstanton Beach Trip

    Cambridge United football trip

    Hilltop Outdoor Centre

1:1 Project - The 1:1 Project offers individual support to young people on the Project. It can sometimes be difficult discussing problems or answering questions in front of a group of people and the 1:1 project provides the opportunity to meet and discuss problems or questions in a more confidential and private way.
