Having
a pregnancy test at Centre 33
Centre
33 offers free and confidential pregnancy testing.
When
can the test be done?
If you are worried that you may be pregnant, it is best to do a test
as soon as possible.
- The
test is done once your period is late. It will not be reliable if
done earlier.
- If
you don't know when your period is due then the test can be done
three weeks after you have had unprotected sex.
- If
you have had unprotected sex and then had a period which was very
light, it would be a good idea to have a test.
- You
can have a test whenever Centre 33 is open, so long as a female member
of staff is available.
What
happens when I come for a test?
- Pregnancy
tests are always done in a private room away from the main reception
area.
- You
will be asked to produce a small urine sample.
- A trained
female information worker will do the test for you
- You
will know the result in five minutes.
- If you want,
we can also give you information about contraception options and
sexually transmitted infections.
Getting
the result
If
your test is negative:
- If
your period still doesn't arrive you can come back and have a test a
week later.
- Your
period may be late due to other reasons so if it does not arrive and
you have had two negative tests you should see your doctor.
If
your test is positive:
- You will be offered information about your
options.
- We
can make you appointments at other services you need.
- If
you are upset or confused, we can arrange for you to have a counselling
appointment, although it may not be immediate.
