Young carers
Centre 33 provides a range of services for 8-18 year olds Young Carers, we work to the Princes Royal Trust definition of a Young Carer:
Young carers are children and young persons under 18 who provide, or intend to provide, care, assistance or support to another family member who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, or has a substance misuse problem. They carry out, often on a regular basis, significant or substantial caring tasks, taking on a level of responsibility that is inappropriate to their age or development.
Our Young Carers Project can help you by:
- Providing someone to talk to.
- Inviting you to a regular group which offers a break, fun activities, and new friends.
- Talking to school or other professionals with you or on your behalf.
- Working with you to make sure your voice is heard.
- Raising awareness of Young Carer's issues.
- Sending you regular copies of our Juicy News Letter.
Support is free and confidential.

Having your say!
Centre 33 has a committee of democratically elected Young Carers who make decision on behalf of their peers on the project. This involves planning and deciding on trips such as Theme parks and activities, to fundraising, interviews on the radio and for the papers.

We also work in partnership with lots of other organisations to try and introduce as many opportunities for Young Carers as possible, such as local artists, street-dancers, musicians etc.
Quotes from young people
"I came because my mum is disabled so it gets me away and gives me some time to myself to do stuff I like."
"Centre 33 is the only way she's going to get to know, meet, and share with other carers. Apart from her going to Groovy Gang, which is definitely set up for the siblings as something for them, and acknowledging that their lives can be affected, that they need an outlet, apart from that I can't think of any other way that this is being catered for" Mum of Young Carer
"I really enjoy going to group, its really important and the stuff we do is excellent"
"I've used Centre 33 because I wanted to become a better person. My Mum is disabled, she's got MS, but she can't help it. I've learnt to put my chin up and get on with it."
"Life's pretty tough when you're a carer"
"Looking after mum is what I do. I'm ok with it"
"Thank you so much Centre 33. For all the support you have given me and my brother, I don't think I could have done it without the help and support from all the staff here"
