About
our counselling service
What
young people say about counselling at Centre 33
"So helpful
to have someone to talk to who actually seems to want to know."
"The centre is open, friendly and non-judgemental."
Restrictions
on counselling
- Counselling
is by self-referral only. This means that the young person him or herself
must request the counselling, either by telephone or in person at the
centre
- we can
only offer a young person counselling if they are under 26, live in Cambridgeshire
and are not a university student
- we can
not normally offer counselling to under 13s.
Centre
33 offers different types of counselling, all of which is free and done by trained volunteers:
Saturday
drop in
Between 10am and 1pm on Saturdays, a young person can see a counsellor
without an appointment.
One off
session
If the young person can't make Saturday, s/he can call us to see if a
one off counselling session is available during the week.
Ongoing
If the young person wants a series of weekly sessions, s/he should call
to get an initial appointment. Please be aware that there may then be
a wait, sometimes of several months, before a counsellor can see him or
her on a regular basis.
Why do
young people have counselling?

counselling to give young people support when they feel worried, uncertain,
trapped, confused, angry or unhappy. These feelings could be caused by:

- personal
worries - low confidence, shyness, loneliness, eating disorders
- abuse
- sexual, emotional, physical, past or present
- depression
- feeling low, sad, anxious or suicidal
- loss
- death, divorce, separation, friendship or relationship break-ups
- sexuality
- sexual feelings, being gay or lesbian, pregnancy or abortion
